Veronica is one of 24 wild Yakima horses seized in December 2019 by King County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Regional Animal Services of King County and SAFE. Since then, Veronica and four of her herdmates (lovingly called “the wildings” by SAFE staff) have been putting on weight and spending quality time with SAFE Horsemanship volunteers. She’s no stranger to the round pen, is learning to love grooming, and is catching on to this whole halter thing. Veronica would make a fantastic project pony to finish your way.
Veronica and Carmel are two lovely mares from the Fall City rescue. They are both appear young (under 4 years old) and do not look to be in foal. They are still very skittish with people but have come a long way since their rescue.
They are both around 14.1-14.2H. They will require an adopter that has experience with gentling horses and training from the ground up. They have a lot of potential but both are long term projects that will need time and commitment to building trust. Find out more by filling out an adoption application. We will give you a call and see if they sound like a match for you!
Joel Conner spent a day at SAFE recently to help Terry and her volunteer horsemen work with five of the wild Fall City 40 horses. These horses are not accustomed to being handled by humans, but we’re working hard to change their minds about us. It’s a challenge, but our wildlings are making good progress!
